So many Classmates are Gone But Not Forgotten. If you ever knew the Spann Twin's you would never forget them. Darryl and Jay Spann we unique and special people. They played jokes on teachers in school by switching classes. Much to the delight of those of us who knew about the switch which most often they got away with.Having known them since Kindergarten I know they were well known in the Hayward area not just the classmates at THS but around town. All the girls described them as 'Cute' and they sometimes played the tricks on the girls too. The twins were always fun to be around. It is with heavy heart I attempt share the memories of these two. Jay died in Viet Nam Nov.26, 1971. Daryl died Feb. 17,1980. Both of their lives were much to short. They will never be forgotten. - Marilynn Matteson Stith - THS 1965
Jay & Darryl Spann lived 3 houses from me for 4 yrs of high school. Each morning, whether walking or on their little Honda, they stopped in front of our house and lit a cigarette on their way to school. They helped me put my Dads little Metropolitan up on grass around side of house one day as a joke. Dad freaked out and thought someone had stolen it. They were so much fun to be around. Never knew what to expect. We spent many times riding skateboards, playing football & baseball, & just talking and teasing each other. They will never be forgotten by those who knew them. - Wonda Marston-Murphy - THS 1965
